Aeration Pipe Cleaning

At a power station in Scotland, as part of the Flue Gas Desulphurisation project there are one thousand 300mm Ø aeration pipe that lay across a river bed. The aeration pipes were led dormant for approximately six month; during this time large quantities of silt and mud had accumulated within the pipes blocking them and preventing air passing through the pipes.

Using a high pressure water jet washer, we broke up the mud and silt and pumped it downstream of the aeration pipes using a diesel powered water pump lowered into the pipes. This process took almost three weeks with the aeration system working as designed with reduced pressure and heat build up on completion of our work.
