CECA Wales Visit to Nant Morlais
We had the recent pleasure of hosting a CECA Wales visit to our Nant Morlais Culvert Repair project in Merthyr Tydfil – a scheme that has demanded both speed of response and technical ingenuity from the EDS team.
The visit began with a presentation from Jack Muldoon, Project Manager at EDS, who set out the background to the works and the sequence of events that led to our involvement. He highlighted the urgency of stabilising the initial collapse, the challenges of working without accurate records of the culvert, and the engineering solutions that have since been developed to allow safe piling, excavation and permanent repair.
Jack explained: “Welcoming CECA Wales gave us a great chance to talk about how the project has evolved and the decisions we’ve had to make along the way. From the first days on site, managing security, protecting homes, and installing pumps at pace, right through to the permanent works design, our team has shown real resilience and collaboration. I’m proud of the professionalism and determination that everyone has brought to this project.”
Following the presentation, Craig Howe, Site Manager at EDS, guided the group on a walking tour of the site. Visitors were able to see first-hand the scale of the works and the precision required to operate within a confined residential cul-de-sac, where complex piling and excavation were being carried out safely and effectively.
Craig reflected: “It was a real privilege to take CECA Wales around the site and show them exactly what’s involved. It’s one thing to hear about the challenges, but when you see the site set-up and the work in progress, it really demonstrates the level of skill, planning, and teamwork needed. And I have to say, the buffet back at the office was very well received too – a great way to end the day!”
The positive feedback from CECA Wales members was hugely encouraging, and it was clear how impressed they were with the depth of expertise and commitment shown by the team. Events like this are an important opportunity not only to share knowledge but also to celebrate the hard work of everyone involved in keeping the project moving forward.
