Commissioning Success at Falklands Jetty
Edwards Diving Services has recently supported commissioning at Falklands Jetty, part of Solent Gateway’s 225-acre port in Southampton. The project focused on protecting the jetty’s steelwork through the installation of a new cathodic protection system.
Ralph Jones and his team assisted with the transformer rectifier (TR) installation, ready for the full commissioning of the impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system. The overall job involved fitting anodes and running cabling so that electrical currents can counteract the naturally corrosive effects of seawater – ensuring the jetty’s long-term durability.
Benefitting from Southampton Water’s unique double tide, the Falklands Jetty can operate for extended periods and plays a vital role in Solent Gateway’s logistics operations.
Ralph Jones, Mechanical & Fabrication Manager at Edwards Diving Services, said: “Protecting marine infrastructure is often about finding robust, long-term solutions to corrosion. Installing ICCP at Falklands Jetty ensures the steelwork remains sound for years to come, while minimising maintenance and disruption.
“Achieving this is only possible through the teamwork, skill, and hard work that define Edwards Diving Services, and I’m proud of the way our people consistently deliver on challenging projects.”
This project demonstrates how Edwards Diving Services’ diving and engineering expertise can be integrated into large-scale port operations to deliver reliable, cost-effective results.
