EDS Dive Teams Mobilise for Major Chasewater Reservoir Works

It’s been a particularly busy few weeks for the Edwards Diving Services dive teams, working across multiple Canal & River Trust sites on a mix of routine and reactive maintenance tasks, while also mobilising to begin a significant new project at Chasewater Reservoir.

At Chasewater, EDS has been appointed by JN Bentley to provide a six-person dive team to support the installation of a new guard valve system within the existing reservoir valve shaft. The new system will allow safe isolation and future dewatering of the shaft section between the new bulkhead and the two existing control valves that regulate flows from the reservoir into the canal network.

The scope of works centres on the installation of a large stainless-steel bulkhead within the existing brick-lined shaft, along with associated valve equipment that will control and isolate flows from the reservoir into the canal network. Once in place, the new arrangement will significantly improve access and long-term operability of this critical asset.

Delivery of the project requires careful planning and close collaboration between the site teams. EDS will be carrying out a series of staged underwater works, including preparation of the shaft, removal of existing obstructions, and the controlled installation of the new bulkhead structure and mechanical components, all while maintaining safe working conditions throughout.

The project will conclude with a final dive survey to confirm the quality and integrity of the installation, with full records and video evidence issued to the client. All works are being delivered in coordination with JN Bentley and in line with agreed site procedures and safety requirements.

Once complete, the scheme will provide a robust, long-term solution that improves operational reliability and helps protect the reservoir–canal system for years to come – it’s a project the EDS team is genuinely proud to be involved in, and one we’re grateful to be delivering alongside our project partners.
