Taking Access Further – Rope Access & Rope Rescue Join the EDS Toolkit
Last November, several members of our Safe Access and Inspections team successfully completed their Rope Operators course, adding valuable new capability to the skills already available across Edwards Diving Services. This training has strengthened our ability to support clients working in environments where access is complex, restricted, or otherwise challenging.
In the weeks that followed, the team quickly moved from training into real-world application. Our Safe Access and Rescue specialists assisted with a bridge inspection in the West Country, before putting their rope access skills to use during confined space rescue cover at Grangetown Viaduct. During this project, the team were able to place an engineer onto a rope system to support inspection activities, demonstrating how rope access can be integrated safely and effectively alongside other access and rescue methods.
Off the back of this experience, rope access and rope rescue have now been formally integrated into our range of services. Rope Access allows us to reach areas that are otherwise difficult or impractical to access – whether that is deep below ground, at height, or on complex structures such as bridges. Crucially, this also enables us to support engineers who do not have their own rope training, helping projects move forward safely and efficiently.
Rope Rescue complements this capability, allowing our teams to use rope access techniques as part of a robust rescue solution should an incident occur. Together, these services expand the range of environments and challenges we can confidently support.
Steve Richings, Commercial Director at EDS, commented: “Our teams have embraced this additional training and applied it professionally in live environments. Integrating rope access and rope rescue into our services means we can now support clients in even more demanding locations, while maintaining the high safety standards EDS is known for.”
By bringing these disciplines together, we can now offer engineering support in locations that were previously out of reach – reinforcing our commitment to safe, practical solutions, no matter how challenging the access.
