Pollution Control Project Supports Reservoir Protection in Thurleigh

Our Mechanical & Fabrication team recently completed a pollution control project at a reservoir in Thurleigh, recovering oil contamination from the water’s surface before installing a new debris boom system to help protect drainage structures in the future.

The works were carried out on behalf of Metcor Environmental, one of the UK’s leading commercial drainage, plumbing and pump engineering firms. The project combined two important environmental objectives: removing existing pollution and reducing the risk of future contaminants entering the drainage network.

By recovering the oil from the reservoir surface, the team helped prevent further environmental impact, while the newly installed debris boom system will intercept floating pollutants before they can reach drainage structures. In addition to helping contain oil, the booms will also capture litter such as plastic bottles and other debris, supporting cleaner waterways and reducing the risk of blockages.

“This was a straightforward but important project that delivered immediate environmental benefits,” said Jason Cullum, Site Supervisor at Edwards Diving Services. “Removing the oil contamination was the first priority, but installing the debris boom system will help provide long-term protection for the drainage infrastructure and surrounding environment. It was great to work alongside Metcor Environmental and we’re looking forward to supporting them on future projects.”
